ABOUT MOUNTAIN HURRICANE:

After living in Florida for over 50 years and weathering my fair share of hurricanes, I've gained a deep understanding of the storms' power and impact. But while adults can grasp the complexities and dangers of these natural disasters, I realized that children might find them especially terrifying. Their imaginations and fears can be amplified by the uncertainty and chaos that come with hurricanes and tornadoes. When I witnessed the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where my Blue Ridge Bears series is set, I was struck by the thought of how children in those areas must have felt. This experience sparked the idea for my children's book about a hurricane, Mountain Hurricane, as I wanted to create a resource that would help kids process their emotions and find comfort during and after such events.
